About us

K.C Taekwondo & Tai Chi is a club dedicated to promoting and spreading the knowledge of Taekwondo and Tai Chi in Haslev and the surrounding area. Our club was founded by me, Katja Christensen, who has a great passion for both disciplines and wants to share my knowledge and experience with others. As 4. Dan in Taekwondo and 10 years of experience with Tai Chi, I definitely have a lot to pass on.
K.C Taekwondo & Tai Chi was founded in 2024 by me, Katja Christensen. After many years of training and teaching in Taekwondo and Tai Chi, I was ready to start my own club. I wanted to create a place where everyone could feel welcome and have an experience with real martial arts. I take pride in being a martial arts practitioner, and therefore I call it an art and not a sport. I started the club for like-minded people.
The club is founded on my values, experiences and knowledge, but the club is also formed in conjunction with my boyfriend Jacques, who also train Taekwondo and Tai Chi. You'll see us both at the club and can ask us both questions.
Jacques and I love to explore the world, which, among other things, consists of active holidays. We usually go to Portugal and train with one of my masters: Nuno Damaso, 7. Dan.
Nuno has had a Taekwondo school in Basel for many years, which we also visit. Nuno, however, has chosen to move to his roots in Portugal, and this is where he hosts Peaceful Warrior Retreats - which we are a huge fan of.
Jacques has participated in all Nunos retreats, which are currently 6 retreats. I have participated in the last 4. So it goes without saying that his retreats are clearly worth trying.
In addition, Nuno is solely my teacher in Tai Chi.

My background and story
I started to Taekwondo under the Shin Won Wha, which has sprung from Hwa Rang. My first Taekwondo club was in Haslev Taekwondo, where I started teaching the children when I was 14. I started teaching the adults when I was 15.
I achieved 1. Dan (black belt) at the age of 16, and back then I was also the first, youngest, as well as the first woman in Haslev Taekwondo, who obtained black belt. This happened in 2015.
Although I have participated in both technique and combat competitions through my colored belts, I have never been bitten by the competition part. I've always been encouraged to train technique at competitive level, but the time has never been right. I have always been interested in learning the martial arts of what it is, and not the martial arts that have been transformed into being able to function in competitions.
I am fascintated by the body's natural movement pattern and captivated by what works - not what looks great for a show.
If you would like to train technique to attend competitions, we are not the club for you. But I can point you in a direction where you can find it.
With us, it's perfectly okay to be affiliated with several clubs. I believe that it is rewarding to learn different styles - also within other martial arts. It expands one's repertoire and can provide many benefits in the understanding and execution of martial arts.
In the picture I am testing for my 2. Dan graduation.
